  • moving our blog...

Sad...I haven't updated here since FEBRUARY. What?? No pictures of Spring Break in TX, our summer, nothing. I should officially quit blogging.

But I'm not going to. :)

I am, however, moving our blog to blogger, because Xanga charges for extra picture space. And all my friends are on blogger anyway. So check it out:
    http://boysandjoys.blogspot.com/

Now that most everyone I know is on Facebook, I may not have many pictures on the blog, but I hope to update more regularly, both with our family happenings and just thoughts about life. As many times as I've updated my status today, you'd think I needed to get on twitter. But I'm not doing it!! No!

Love you all, and see you on Blogger!

  • Happy Birthday Luke!!

Luke will be 9 years old on Thursday - we can hardly believe it!

In the fall, our college guys did an event called "Man Night" - they took over the youth complex and played dodge ball and all kinds of other throw-balls-at-each-other-and-hope-noone-dies kinds of games. When Matt told Luke about it the next day, Luke asked if he could do that as his birthday party this year.We took out the almost-deadly parts (the college guys used tennis balls for some of the games), and we did it.

It ended up being mostly Dodge ball & Prison ball - we were going to do broom ball as well, but I couldn't find brooms that wouldn't break easily (we always played with old wooden ones.) We did a Dads vs. kids party - 10 balls, 8 kids, 6 dads, and 2 solid hours of dodgeball (It was 2.5 hours and they just took a 20 minute break to eat cupcakes.) Those dads were so tired by the end!! But it was a great time, and the cheapest, easiest party we've ever done.

    More pics in the photostrip!

    Happy Birthday Luke!!

(goofball - I asked him to give me a real smile.)

  • Other fun February times...

Here are just some random good times in February...

On Valentine's Day, I wanted Tobin to be wearing red (I know, not like it matters, but I like it :D). His red shirt was dirty (I wasn't thinking about it and had him wear it a couple of days before V-day), so I put him in a white shirt with a red fleece vest that was Luke's. It was one of Matt's favorite things of Luke's, but I hadn't ever remembered to put it on Tobin. I thought he looked so cute, and he was in an unusually cooperative mood (lately, as soon as I get the camera out, he says "NO!" and runs away.) He let me get quite a few good pictures too...

    How cute is he??

A couple of days ago, while I was cooking dinner, Tobin really wanted someone to read to him (he almost always wants someone to read to him - he'll follow me around with a book saying, "Choo Choo! Read it!") Since i was busy, I told him to ask his brother. Then I called Matt & made him take pictures :)

I know what you're probably thinking. Luke's legs are HUMONGOUS. He already comes up to my chin. I love the way Tobin is looking at him :)

Over the summer, we took a little experimental plunge into expanded cable (we've always just had 13 channels, and no DVR). We ended up deciding that we don't watch enough TV to justify the (rather considerable) extra expense. The only trouble is that we kind of got hooked on a couple of shows (and I LOVED having the DVR...going back to a VCR was a beating.) We've joyfully discovered how many of those shows (Psych!) are available online, so we've been watching a ton of TV on our laptops. Matt was talking to our friend Jared and found out that they also watch TV from the internet, but they do it by hooking their laptop up to the TV. Matt was super excited about that possibility, so today he's had the TV pulled out from the wall trying to get it hooked up. He was using his head lamp, which Tobin was very excited about. So T got one too:

    Next up...Luke's birthday!
  • February Fun

For our February Family party, we had - what else? - a Valentine's party.

    We had a candlelit dinner...

Yummy steak and potatoes, with heart shaped brownies for dessert.

Earlier in the day, Luke and I made Valentine cards for everyone in the family. They all said "I love you because..." Between dinner and dessert, we passed the cards around and took turns writing all the things we love about each other (Tobin just colored, but he enjoyed it - he's learning his colors, so he kept saying, "Pink!!" "Red!" "Color!!")

Here's a close of up the one Luke did for himself:

(Camo hearts and a tank shooting bullets through the heart! Ha ha!!)

We had a great time celebrating each other and being encouraged. I did learn that I have a lot of work to do teaching Luke how to be an encourager before he gets married. The only two things he could come up with for his "I love you because" for me was "You cook for me." and "You take me to school." Matt told him he needed to do more, so after "You cook for me", he added "breakfast, lunch, and dinner." Isn't that hilarious!?  I thanked him for his words, of course, and made a mental note that his love language must be acts of service! (for the record, he only had one for Matt - "You play video games with me." :D)

    Happy Valentimes!
  • More January Fun...

Before I forget to mention it... I've put more pictures up than I'm including here. If you're seeing this on the web (as opposed to getting it in email), there's a photostrip to the right of the blog, all the pictures are on there...

A couple of random pics first... Betsy's birthday is in January, and while we were out at Bill & Sara's celebrating her (and we praise God for her!!), we tried to get a picture of Matt with the two littlest ones (Ellery and Tobin). It didn't go so well, but I think it's a funny picture :D

Am I sadistic? This picture cracks me up!

Here's a cuter one... I got Tigger & Pooh beanie babies on clearance at Target. He loves them.

I'm looking at this picture & realizing that I may not be very good at getting the car seat harness on T very snugly on the side opposite the door. I can't see it from where I stand plugging him in, guess I'll have to be a little more careful!!

On to other January fun... At the end of the month, I met my friend Holly & her little girl Kate, who is 3 months younger than Tobin, at the Lincoln Children's Museum. This was the first time T has been to the Museum that he could really appreciate it...and he had a wonderful time.

My Aggie friends are probably not going to appreciate this one...

If they had Aggie gear, I promise I would have used it!

His favorite part of the museum was the water play area.

He also really liked all the cars/trucks/boats/tractors that he got to climb up into...

We had a great time (Luke was kind of offended that we did fun things while he was at school...Tobin hasn't really been old enough to make it worth doing much during the school days, so he's not really used to missing out on things!)

    Next up...Valentine's and Luke's Birthday!!
